Saint Margaret’s Chapter of
Benedictine Oblates
E-mail: Dunfermlineosb@live.co.uk
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Saint Margaret’s Chapter of Benedictine
Oblates has been established for those who are committed to, and for those who
have an interest in Benedictine Spirituality.
The first meeting of the above Chapter
was held on Friday, 29th January, 2010, within Holy Trinity
Episcopal Church, East Port, Dunfermline, with representatives of Douai, Elmore
and Pluscarden Abbey in attendance.
The format was kept very simple and
the programme consisted of:-
7:00pm – 7:25pm arrival at church
and prep supper,
7:30pm Vespers,
8:00pm Supper and discussion,
9:00pm Compline followed by
dispersal (approximate timings).
Vespers and Compline are taken from
Benedictine Daily Prayer, a short breviary, and we have produced an extract for
those who do not have this prayer book.
The decision has been taken to
undertake a study of “St. Benedict’s Toolbox” by Jane Tomaine ( ISBN
978-0-8192-2152-0) Morehouse Publishing, with the introduction and Chapter One
to be discussed at our next meeting, which will be held on the last Friday of
February.
Saint Margaret’s Chapter will
thereafter meet on the last Friday of each month.
It is hoped that the Chapter will
provide a Community for Oblates, especially for those who reside in the Fife,
Edinburgh and Central Belt of Scotland, and a gateway for those who have an
interest in Benedictine Spirituality.
Dunfermline is an easily
accessible city. The Railway and Bus Station is only a short walk from the
church and motorway access is good.
Car parking is also available
adjacent to Holy Trinity.
Supper will consist of a cold table
with those in attendance catering on a rota basis.
Please promote this Chapter and
commend it to your fellow parishioners.
